11. There Is No Expiration Date For Being A Parent

Some people think that, on the day of their child’s graduation, their kid is an adult who should move out of the house to be on his own. “Sink or swim” is their philosophy. A lot of these same people found out that their child’s good behavior ended shortly thereafter. (Their kids “sank.”)

The fact of the matter is that children still need tutoring as adults. They shouldn’t need your discipline as much (or at all), but they will need your advice/help as they learn to handle adult situations, and that often means they need to be living with you after they are 18 to get that advice. There’s a problem if they can’t make it on their own by the time they are 25, but don’t be in a hurry to kick them out if they can’t stand up to the world’s pressures before then.

While my two kids got married and moved out at an early age. This other son my second stayed with me and my husband until he was 40 then moved with his fiance and daughter to a very expensive neighbourhood. I never once asked him to leave or get his own place until he was ready. He enjoyed living with us. He seldom attends church but awaits his blessings when I return from Sunday worship. I do hope that someday they all return.
