You talk as if racial justice was always a thing. Most people didn’t interact with other races as often as you imagine & most places contained people of the same race more often than not.
It was Catholicism which even helped combat many of these ills in society. Human rights, common laws & the idea of the equality of the dignity of all men all came from Christianity & was gradually taught to Europe over the centuries & then the world.
Even the so-called racial justice has been a used to veil unjustified retaliatory racism & equality has been abused to oppose meritocracy & to encourage things like communism & socialism.
Society today isn’t necessarily better or worse than the past. You just can’t make that kind of generalisation. There are societies today where child marriage is legal, but wasn’t so centuries ago. Slavery & human trafficking are still going on. There’s more murders today than in the past (although this is PARTLY due to a higher population being available for killing) & the last 2 world wars was had more casualties than many wars of past centuries put together.
